who lives in Charlottesville, Virginia. He has released 9 CDs on his own Espresso label, ranging from
solo instrumentals to full band progressive rock, Latin jazz, and free improvisation.
Greg has toured extensively throughout North America and beyond,
performing on occasion with Tim Reynolds, and as a soloist and in duet with
drums at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Festival of Stick and Tap Guitar in France, the Dai Gakki Sai in
Japan.
He has taught over 40 Stick seminars since his first in 1996. Greg specializes in teaching the
"physical technique" aspects of Emmett's Free Hands parallel two-handed tapping method.
His Stick Book™, Volume 1 (1997)
was the first use of the StaffTab fretboard notation system he co-developed with Emmett Chapman.
Greg is on the adjunct Music faculty
of the University of Virginia.
"For those of us in the Stick community
Greg is a major force in forging new territory
with his advanced technique, and with his unique musical vision."
-Tony Levin
David Parr Nashville-based singer/songwriter.
He has been playing the Stick since 1985, performing professionally for the past several years.
David plays a relaxing mixture of old standards and original songs as instrumentals for
restaurants and other events. He also sings and plays original and cover songs in the
Blues and Rock style. David has been teaching private Stick lessons for several years,
and this will be his first seminar as a teacher. He is an engaging singer/songwriter,
who naturally integrates bluesy riffs and expressive nuance into his solid vocal accompaniment.

Who can attend?
|
This seminar is open to students of all skill levels, even those who have never played a Stick before.
Players of the Stick, Grand Stick, Alto Stick, and Stick Bass are invited to attend.
Classes will be offered on the basics of Emmett Chapman's Free Hands parallel two-handed tapping method,
with a strong emphasis on ergonomics and physical technique. There will be more advanced classes on accompaniment strategies,
independence vs. interdependence, chord structures in both hands,
learning to "feel keys" on the whole fretboard surface, and basic Stick setup and maintenance.
David will also offer a class on playing and singing simultaneously.
Students do not need any knowledge of reading music notation,
nor do they need to have any previous experience playing a musical instrument,
though some rudimentary knowledge of pitches and rhythms
will be helpful.
If you want to attend and have a Stick on order, or are interested in an immersion weekend before ordering an instrument,
one or two extra extra instruments will be available on a first-come, first served basis.
Students who wish to may perform at Sunday Night's Stick Night concert.
"I've been catching Greg's classes whenever possible
for the last ten years.
I always come away from Greg's lessons with new insight into my working relationship with the Stick.
I've not met a better teacher."
-Scott Shurr, Portland Oregon
