The StaffTab fretboard notation system is a special hybrid system for notating tapping on a fretboard. It combines graphic elemants of tablature with standard music notation and Emmett Chapman's original finger symbols to convey all of the pitch rhythm note placement and fingering information. Greg and Emmett developed this system together for use in Greg's first book, The Stick Book™, Volume 1, which Stick Enterprises first published in 1997.

This video explains all the notation system elements, and shows some of the exercies in The Stick Book, Volume 1, as notation and live action, simultaneously: The Stick Book Volume 1 (1997), and the Greg Howard Songbook (2009) both employ StaffTab, though there are a few small changes in the notation developed for the songbook.
